Associate Brands and Retailers

b-MAP is a specially designed Programme within Chem-MAP to support brands and retailers with implementing responsible chemical management in their materials supply chains for leather, textile and synthetic products. This Programme also helps brands and retailers work towards ZDHC goals and objectives as well as achieve ‘Associate Brand and Retailer’ status, which is awarded upon completion of the b-MAP Programme.

b-MAP provides a flexible approach to capacity building for responsible chemical management and ultimately positions brands and retailers to implement responsible chemical sourcing strategies within their material supply chains.

b-MAP Modules

The b-MAP Programme consists of the following modules:

Module 1: Chemical Management Audit

The Eurofins | BLC Chem-MAP Team will conduct an independent on-site audit of the brand’s or retailer’s chemical management systems. This audit focuses on chemical management processes and the effectiveness of their implementation in the brand’s or retailer’s supply chain.

The b-MAP Chemical Management Audit includes, but is not limited to, areas such as:

  • Supplier management
  • Material procurement
  • Testing
  • Training for staff to become Chem-MAP Approved Technicians (CAT)
  • Auditing
  • Future proofing

Module 2: Benchmarking and Gap Analysis

This module is designed to help brands and retailers develop best practices and implement chemical management policies through benchmarking and gap analysis activities.

The Chem-MAP Team will carry out a thorough benchmarking of the brand’s or retailer’s Restricted Substance List (RSL) and Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) against industry leaders, as well as best practice guidelines.

Upon completion of the b-MAP audit and benchmarking exercise, Eurofins | BLC will provide the brand or retailer with:

  • A comprehensive audit report detailing key findings from the audit, as well as recommendations and actions for improvement
  • A b-MAP Score ranging from ‘Engaged’ to ‘Advanced’

b-MAP Scores

Each company that completes the b-MAP Programme receives a score that ranges from ‘Engaged’ at entry level to ‘Advanced’ for companies with more developed chemical management systems.

b-MAP Level Score
Level 1 Engaged
Level 2 Progressive
