Deciding what chemical formulations should be used to manufacture consumer products can be complex and sometimes daunting for brands and retailers. The pressure on brands and retailers and their respective manufacturers and suppliers is compounded, given strong media attention on any negative welfare issues, including consumer welfare for the purchase of the product; social welfare of the workers involved in the manufacture of the product; and environmental welfare.
In response to this, BLC developed the Chem-MAP® Programme, which is a new innovative MRSL verification system. Chem-MAP® improves the quality of chemicals in the leather, textiles and synthetics materials supply chains by preventing toxic chemicals from entering the raw materials production and manufacturing processes. Chem-MAP® also provides opportunities for brands and retailers to show their commitment of responsible chemistry in manufacturing to consumers.
The BLC Chem-MAP® Programme will be featured at the Sustainability in the Leather Supply Chain Conference in Hong Kong, which takes place at the APLF Leather & Materials+ Exhibition on 15th March 2018.
Dr. Victoria Addy, Technical Director at BLC Leather Technology Centre Ltd. will present ‘Building Confidence in Supplied Chemicals – Chem-MAP® MRSL Verification Programme’ at the conference. The presentation will explain how the BLC Chem-MAP® Programme supports not only brands and retailers in the way of chemical management, but also how Chem-MAP® engages other supply chain stakeholders to increase confidence in supplied chemicals.
