The ZDHC Gateway Chemical Module is an advanced search database that enables ZDHC engaged participants to demonstrate responsible chemical management within their supply chains. The use of the Gateway enables value chain affiliates in the leather, textile and synthetic sectors to verify whether chemicals manufactured and used within the production of their products are compliant to the limits of the ZDHC MRSL.
Whilst the ZDHC Gateway Chemical Module can be used by various users in an attempt to provide a holistic approach to chemical management, the role of the Gateway differs dependent on which area of the supply chain you represent:
Certified Chemical Companies can upload their MRSL compliant product portfolios. Within the Chemical Module, Formulators can achieve ZDHC Conformance awards ranging from Level 1 to Level 3, by engaging with a ZDHC Approved MRSL Certification body (e.g. Chem-MAP®).
Level 0 = Self-declaration (only applicable for a 2-year period)
Level 1 = Formulation Testing/ Document Review
Level 2 = Product Stewardship Evaluation
Level 3 = Chemical Supplier Site Visit
As a Chemical Formulator, the ZDHC Gateway helps to demonstrate commitment to responsible input chemistry and upstream chemical management, in the strive for the ultimate goal of zero discharge of hazardous chemicals.
Manufacturers (of materials and product) can use the ZDHC Gateway to responsibly source MRSL compliant chemicals. Thereby enabling them to make sustainable upstream choices, that ultimately have an effect on downstream users and consumers.
Brands and Retailers can use the ZDHC Gateway as an educational knowledge base, that can be used to support their suppliers to help them in sourcing sustainable, MRSL compliant, chemicals. Thereby, helping to purge the use of hazardous chemicals in the footwear and apparel industries.
