Who are ZDHC?
ZDHC stands for Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals which is an organisation dedicated to eliminating hazardous chemicals, and implementing sustainable chemicals in the leather, textile and synthetics sectors.
The ZDHC Programme is a multi-stakeholder group which includes brands, value chain affiliates and associates, that work collaboratively to implement responsible chemical management practices.
What is the ZDHC MRSL?
One of the tools which ZDHC have developed to achieve their objective is the ZDHC MRSL. The ZDHC MRSL is designed to support brands, retailers, suppliers and manufacturers with a unified approach to managing chemicals during the processing of chemical formulations, within the apparel and footwear supply chain.
The ZDHC MRSL contains a number of restricted substances which are segmented into two chapters:
How does MRSL Testing relate to Eurofins | BLC’s Chem-MAP Family?
MRSL testing is a fundamental element of the c-MAP Programme, within Eurofins | BLC’s Chem-MAP family. Chem-MAP is a ZDHC Accepted Certification Standard for ZDHC MRSL compliance. Commercial chemical formulations (from chemical suppliers) are extracted and tested for compliance to the ZDHC MRSL at Eurofins | BLC’s analytical testing laboratory. The testing methods used are fully validated for each of the ZDHC listed MRSL chemicals.
ZDHC MRSL compliant products contribute towards chemical companies becoming Chem-MAP Certified; where applicable, chemical companies are issued with certification for their c-MAP certified products. Compliant chemical formulations, are uploaded onto the ZDHC Gateway, and are awarded a Level 1 or Level 3 ZDHC compliance status, depending upon the c-MAP programme undertaken.
Eurofins | BLC can carry out MRSL testing of commercial chemical formulations to the ZDHC MRSL, as well as to a customer specified MRSL:

Find a programme that works for your company.Become Chem-MAP Certified
Chemical companies can become ZDHC Level 1 or Level 3 approved suppliers by engaging with the c-MAP Programme. ‘Certified Chemical Company’ status is awarded upon the successful completion of chemical management audits, supply chain transparency and MRSL testing modules in the c-MAP Programme.
Join the m-MAP Programme as a supplier of materials or products to become an ‘Approved Manufacturer of Materials’. The m-MAP Programme provides your company with a structured award through the completion of online training modules, chemical inventory management and chemical management audits.
Brands and retailers can show consumers their commitment to responsible chemical management through the b-MAP Programme and achieve ‘Associate Brand and Retailer’ status. b-MAP supports ZDHC objectives through education, guidance, policy advice and supply chain management support.
Achieve ZDHC Conformance Level 1 through MRSL testing at Eurofins | BLC’s accredited laboratory to fully validated methods, that incorporate all MRSL listed substances. MRSL testing verifies the chemical composition of formulations to the ZDHC MRSL or customers’ own MRSLs for international chemical compliance.
Watch the Chem-MAP video to see how this new ZDHC approved MRSL verification programme is engaging all organisations in the leather, textile and synthetic materials supply chains to drive the use of responsible chemistry in the manufacture of consumer products.
Chem-MAP is a preventative system that protects businesses, workers, consumers and the environment, and rewards businesses that engage through certification, approved status, training and technical support. Chem-MAP offers three programmes which are specifically designed for chemical companies (c-MAP Programme), manufacturers (m-MAP Programme) and brands and retailers (b-MAP Programme).
